The CRESTWAY is a trailing suction dredger with a hopper capacity of 5,600 m3, built by order of Koninklijke Boskalis Westminster nv.
The CRESTWAY is a sister vessel of the SHOREWAY. Both vessels are 97.50 metres long and have a hopper capacity of 5,600 m³. The vessels, which will be used for worldwide dredging projects, are specifically developed for dredging and transporting sand and sediment. They are particularly suitable for both working in low water and maintaining ports, beach suppletion and land reclamation projects.
The CRESTWAY and the SHOREWAY combine a no-nonsense approach to their design, demonstrating its versatility to a very high degree. During the design phase, the emphasis was placed on realising a relatively low vessel weight but with an accompanying large cargo.
The CRESTWAY is a twin screw trailing suction hopper dredger. The dredger is equipped with a trailing pipe at port side with a pipe diameter measuring 1,000 mm, with which a maximum dredging depth of 33 metres can be achieved. The dredged material can be discharged through two rows of orthogonal doors at the bottom of the hopper. A self-unloading suction system with which the dredged material is pumped ashore through a floating cable or an exhaust nozzle that is fitted on top of the anchor, can also be used. This is called ‘rainbowen’. The vessel can accommodate up to 14 people.
